Abstract

In the contemporary era, the rapid shift in lifestyle and the escalation of psychological stressors have led to a
surge in Manovaha Srotas (psychosomatic) disorders. While modern psychotherapeutic interventions are widely
employed, the classical Ayurvedic modality of Satvavajaya Chikitsa—a non-pharmacological approach focusing
on Mano-nigraha (restraining the mind from unwholesome objects)—offers a robust and holistic alternative.
This paper presents a systematic review of the conceptual framework and clinical efficacy of Satvavajaya
Chikitsa in managing lifestyle-induced mental stress. By synthesizing references from the Brihatrayi and recent
clinical studies, this review elucidates the mechanisms through which traditional counseling, behavioral
modification, and cognitive reframing influence psychological resilience. The findings suggest that Satvavajaya
Chikitsa is a sophisticated, patient-centered therapy that addresses the root cause of mental disturbances by
regulating Sattva (psyche) and promoting emotional stability. The review concludes that integrating these
ancient practices into modern lifestyle management protocols can significantly improve quality of life and
provide a sustainable solution for stress-related psychopathology. Further standardized clinical trials are
recommended to validate the clinical outcomes of these traditional techniques in diverse populations.
