In Ayurveda, Acharya Sushruta describes about Gudabhramsha (A Kshudra Roga). Vata
dosha vitiation leads to weakness of Mamsa (muscle) and Snayu (ligament), resulting into loss
of Sthirtva (structural support) and downward displacement of rectum. Nidana (causative factors)
includes Atipravahan (straining), Vibandha (constipation), Atisara (chronic diarrhoea) and
Apathya Aahara Vihara that aggravates Vata. Rectal Prolapse mostly Required surgical operative
to stabilize the patient as well as to promote healing process. But children have less tolerating
capacity, they cannot bear the pain of surgery. Such type of treatment modalities was avoided
because of pain, fear, longer hospitalization, chances of recurrence and also economical
expenses. The contemporary system of medicine, the common treatment for rectal prolapse is
operative procedure, there are multiple surgical procedure to treat rectal Prolapse and thus care
should be taken to understand each patient's symptoms. Pre operative work up includes physical
examination, Blood reports etc. Surgeries have some complications. So, there is need for Non-
surgical (Muscle constrictor, pain reliever, Stambhan, Ropan) treatment modalities with less
economical expenditure as well as minimum Hospitalization. Basti is useful for everyone at any
age. Aacharya said that Basti is an Ardha chikitsa. And it is most effective in Vatavyadhi. It also
works in dhatugat Avastha. If it gives properly, Basti gives more effect. Lajjalu Ghrit Matra Basti
has non-surgical use, Less Painful, Minimum Expenditure, No Need of Anaesthesia. In
Ayurvedic literature Lajjalu is mentioned which have good curative properties for treatment of
rectal prolapse. This treatment is not only minimising the complications and recurrence but also
enables the patient to resume daily routine quickly with less discomfort and to prove that
Ayurvedic treatment can also become Supportive treatment with modern management for rectal
prolapse. Hence it can be proved as a most affordable and convenient in the developing countries
