Abstract

A synthesis of novel 3-(2-methylbenzofuran-3-yl)-5-aryl-isoxazole derivatives (13a-o) synthesized by
cycloaddition of different substituted-phenoxy propargyls (12a-e) with benzofuran-3-carbaldehyde
oximes (11a-c) and hydroxylamine with a three-carbon atom component reaction. Title compounds and
all-important functional groups were characterized and confirmed by NMR, FT-IR, and mass
spectroscopic analysis. The antibacterial potential of all the produced compounds was assessed against
selected bacterial and fungus species. Biological screening showed that several compounds had
remarkable antibacterial activity with some of the derivatives displaying equivalent or better efficacy
than the conventional medicines.
