This study investigated the protective effect of Pistia stratiotes
supplemented diets on growth performance and biochemical constituents of
malathion exposed Labeo rohita. Healthy fish were acclimatized under
laboratory conditions and fed diets containing different levels of P.stratiotes.
Growth, feed utilization, proximate composition, and nucleic acid contents
were evaluated. Malathion exposure significantly reduced growth, feed intake,
tissue protein, lipid, energy, ash, DNA, and RNA contents. However, dietary
supplementation with P.stratiotes, particularly at 30% inclusion, significantly
(P < 0.01) improved body weight, body length, weight gain, feed utilization,
tissue protein, lipid, energy, ash, and nucleic acid contents compared with
malathion-treated fish. Two-way ANOVA revealed that dietary P. stratiotes
levels significantly influenced most growth and biochemical parameters (P <
0.01). The results demonstrate that 30% P.stratiotes supplementation
effectively mitigates malathion induced toxicity and enhances growth
performance and nutritional status in L. rohita, suggesting its potential as
a natural feed additive in freshwater aquaculture.
